Event 3 Alton Water provided a perfect cross-shore force 2/3 for the third round of Team 15 racing. Twenty six competitors took part in up to nine races. Norwich Force 8th managed to field the biggest team with 12 sailors, Alton had 9 for their home event and Lakeside brought 4 all the way from Peterborough. Tallington was once again represented by Charley Sissons, this time sailing with a badly bruised rib. 3.5m sailors show their strength The 3.5 fleet had a good turnout with ten competitors, including quite a few new sailors for Alton who had only been windsurfing for a number of weeks. Special mention goes to Hattie White, from Alton, who really dominated the racing and finished first in
Changing places in the 4.5m fleet The 4.5m fleet also had lots of very close racing between the 7 competitors. The lead changed constantly and no one person clearly dominated. It was great to see everyone entering into the spirit of fair play – to their credit, if any one was over the line they went back and restarted. All sailors worked hard and pushed each other at every available opportunity. Joe Dailey came out on top, winning the class for Lakeside. Jack Van Den Berg Hider came second, and was the first and only techno in the fleet. Bryony Bennett-Lloyd took third place. Special mention goes to Harriet Hudspith, from Norwich Force 8th, who never gave up and bagged a Starboard t-shirt for her dogged determination. 5.5m fleet dominated by Jo Harley With only 4 competitors, the 5.5m fleet was the smallest on the water. This was mainly due to sailors having moved up to the 6.8m fleet. Jo Harley took full advantage for Alton, dominating all 4 races. Jo plans to move on to the 6.8m fleet next time. Ryan Middleton took 2nd place overall, with a second in both morning races. 3rd place went to Dean Taylor, sailing on a Techno. The other sailor in the class, James Hamilton, challenged Dean and Ryan in all races and was rewarded with a 2nd place in the last race of the day. New sailors for the 6.8m fleet Tom Bailey and Rebecca Calder moved up to the 6.8m fleet, with Rebecca (aged 13, Alton) winning the rookie battle. Tom from
A good end to a good day All competitors were rewarded for their efforts with prizes very kindly donated by Starboard Tushingham. We ended the day with a very healthy diet of sausage and chips, cake and chocolate for all. A big thank you to all the parents who brought food for the teams to share. Everyone had a great day and, with some tuition thrown in at lunchtime, improved as a Once again , I had a lot of help with running this event and would like to thank all of my helpers. The fourth event will be at Whitlingham Broad on the 8th September. No pressure Phil, but we want sunshine, wind and a full team to make the next one even bigger and better. August is going to seem like a long month! See you soon, Graham. Team winners - Alton Water Wipeouts

The Green Blue is an environmental awareness initiative by the British Marine Federation and the Royal Yachting Association. One of its aims is to educate and promote the sustainable use of coastal and inland waters by watersports participants. Some of the initiatives have a relevance to windsurfers - especially in achieving cleaner seas and beaches.
