Event 2 Light winds prevail at Tallington Tallington lakes once again hosted the second eastern region team 15 inter club event of the year, with 16 competitors taking part in four or five very light wind races. Alton Water Wipeouts fielded a team of six, Lakeside Loafers five and Norwich Force 8th four competitors. The home team was, once again, represented by Charlie Sissons. Balmy sunshine – barmy breezes The weather was very pleasant for the parents, with lots of warm sunshine but, unfortunately for the competitors, the wind was very light and shifty. It barely registered a force 1 at its strongest and switched from offshore to cross-shore and even onshore at times. Tom Bennett Lloyd commented that he sailed 3 windward legs in one race, around what should have been a box course with an outer loop. The lack of wind again proved rather trying for the 3.5 /4.5 fleet, as their course changed from a reach out and back or a figure 8 with a tack either end to an upwind downwind challenge, completely fooling the 3.5 sailors, who one minute were sailing along quite happily and the next going backwards! A brilliant debut for Oscar With many of the sailors moving up through the fleets at this event the 3.5 fleet had only 2 representatives, these were Christopher Harley aged 11, sailing for Alton Water Wipeouts and newcomer Oscar Fear Segal aged 12, from Norwich and sailing for the force 8th's. Oscar had a brilliant debut, winning every one of the five aces and also the merit award for an extraordinary performance. Newcomer Joe makes his mark Edward Cracknel and Joe Dailey joined the 4.5 fleet this time around, racing against Chloe Smith, Jack Van Denberg Hider and Conner Jones. Although Edward pushed very hard and was a worthy competitor he was just put into 4th place by Connor who finished 3rd. Jack was second in this fleet with two 2nds and a 4th to count. The star of the fleet this time however, was newcomer Joe, who managed to carry on where he left off in the 3.5 fleet last time around with 4 first places in 4 races . Will he be in the 5.5 fleet by the next event? Rebecca wins the 5.5s Talking of people moving to the 5.5 fleet, Thomas Bailey did just that and won the first race off the day, even beating the 6.8s over the finish line (they did do an extra outside loop of the box course though). The other 5.5s were Dean Taylor on a techno, Joanna Harley, Ryan Middleton and Rebecca Calder. Dean struggled in the light winds but he was the first techno. Joanna was next with three 4ths to count, Ryan next with four 3rds. After his early success, Tom was 2nd to Rebecca in the remaining three, putting Rebecca into 1st place overall. Will she be heading for the 6.8s next? 6.8s Aaron Murphy really got into his stride at this event. He was the only 6.8 sailor not on a techno or in the zone squad. He won the first 3 races and finished 2nd in the 4th for his discard. Tom Bennet Lloyd was second overall, Tristan Hughes was 3rd and Charlie Sissons 4th. The team prize was taken by Alton this time with 17 points. Norwich force 8th were second with 19 points, Lakeside Loafers had 21 points and Charlie 34. Thanks to helpers My thanks to all the coaches and parents for help and support throughout the day. Special thanks Jill and Steve Sissons for bacon rolls and other support. Thanks also to Ryan Taylor a former team 15'er and now a windsurfing instructor (I am so proud) who raised flags and took photos for this event. The third event will be at Alton on the 7th of July. Ian will get the wind sorted so please lets make this a big one guys! See you soon Graham. Team winners - Alton Water Wipeouts

The Green Blue is an environmental awareness initiative by the British Marine Federation and the Royal Yachting Association. One of its aims is to educate and promote the sustainable use of coastal and inland waters by watersports participants. Some of the initiatives have a relevance to windsurfers - especially in achieving cleaner seas and beaches.
