Event 4
As the wind built, it came from an off shore direction which was far from ideal for the novice sailors and a worry for the safety boats. As things turned out, the boats provided a Taxi service on only 4 occasions. A triangle course was laid starting with a broad reach from the beach and the last leg, a beat towards the shore. With a dozen in the 3.5m fleet, it was decided to set them off two minutes before the other fleets. Imogen Sills showed her skills by dominating the 3.5m fleet, closely followed by Jonathan Brindley who thought he had let down his team by being lapped, thinking that this would eliminate him. When it was explained that he had a finish and was still in the competition he cheered up. Chris (Fresh Prince) Bellairs took first place in the 4.5m fleet followed by Robert Wilkinson. Poor Saskia Sills waited patiently to start whilst one of the novice sailors tried to sail away with her board on top of Saskias mast. In the 5.5m fleet there was a close battle between the top 3 sailors with Will Pepworth winning race one. The 6.8m fleet again proved a close contest with a fine battle between the top three sailors. Dexter West and Jamie Winn were the only sailors Techno 6.8m class as other commitments prevented other clubs fielding a full team. In race two Melody, from Roadford, found her form to take second place behind Imogen. Saskia finally got a decent start and was well ahead of the 4.5m fleet. Will Pepworth was back on form and started to show dominance of the 5.5m fleets. Charlie Winn again took 1st place in the 6.8m fleet. There was then a break for lunch and a further four races followed. Imogen managed a successful string of results and took the 3.5m fleet with a 5 point score. Melody claims second place giving Roadford one and two with Victoria, from Tamar, taking third place. Saskia, from Roadford, continued her string of bullets to win the 4.5m fleet with Chris Fresh Prince, from Tamar, taking second. Will Pepworth won the 5.5 metre fleet followed by Tom Davies, a Holiday Let, taking second place and first Techno. Charlie Winn won in the 6.8m Techno fleet, followed by Adam West. Craig Langmead, from Siblyback, did well and kept the pressure on the two Zone Squad sailors with a creditable third position. At the prize presentation, Ady thanked the sponsors, parents and coaches for their continued support. A special thank you went to South West Lakes Trust for their hospitality. The Green Blue is an environmental awareness initiative by the British Marine Federation and the Royal Yachting Association. One of its aims is to educate and promote the sustainable use of coastal and inland waters by watersports participants. Some of the initiatives have a relevance to windsurfers - especially in achieving cleaner seas and beaches.
