Event 2
Venue: Siblyback Watersports, nr Liskeard
Date: 9 July 2006

11 to 22 knots of wind and a
slalom festival for event 2...

As registration started, Luke, the Siblyback Water Warriors team coach was promising close to a full team, this was shaping up to be a SWS record event as entry’s were coming in thick and fast.  Thanks to Zena and Costa for working the till and coping with the rush while I tried to answer the questions!

The Tamar Tigers started to appear but where was the team coach? Rumours of Tim being navigationally embarrassed were going round but all the South West Lakes instructors know where the sites are don’t they? Maybe not!.

Roseland Wave Riders started to arrive and Marrianne showed them the way on a new mode of transport. I know the roads in Cornwall get plugged up with tourists but I never expected this!

Roadford Wreckers completed the teams for this event, four teams and 29 competitor’s.  Things were looking good - even the rain stopped for us.

After a brief discussion with Geoff, the SW (N) co-ordinator, a down wind slalom course was decided on to test the teams in the conditions. I went off to enter all of our competitors into the computer as Geoff assisted by Luke, Marrianne and Tim started the racing.

The first race was fast and not so furious as the novices were set off first to cause havoc on the gybe marks for the rest of the fleets.
Jack Warren from Roseland (Demon Sails) dodged his way through the carnage to win the first race convincingly, followed by Daniel Norton a secret weapon held in reserve by the Siblyback Water Warriors (Tushingham)  and Josh Warren (no relation to Jack and Nat) came in a close third.

Race 2 saw a change in the starting order for the fleets and proved a success with a 123 from Paddle and Sail in the overall finish positions. Jack was planing and carve gibing through the course, proving the National Junior Class is a good all round board and finishing in first place again.  Sammy Armstrong took race 2 in the 5.5 class, Louis Morris took first in the 4.5 and Gemma Greyston took the lead in the 3.5 fleet.

With the wind blowing between 9 and 22 knots, a total of 6 races were held and I think everyone was tired out, so the results were calculated and Costa the manager of Siblyback presented the prizes.  The sponsors Tushingham and Demon were thanked and the winning team were the Water Warriors by 1 point over Roseland.

ADOPT-A-BEACH

The Green Blue is an environmental awareness initiative by the British Marine Federation and the Royal Yachting Association. One of its aims is to educate and promote the sustainable use of coastal and inland waters by watersports participants.

Some of the initiatives have a relevance to windsurfers - especially in achieving cleaner seas and beaches.

Adopt-a-Beach is definitely relevant to T15ers, which is a Marine Conservation Society project supported by the Green Blue.
