Event 1 Riding the crest of a wave on home waters
The day, which was hosted by Roseland Paddle and Sail, started a little later than planned due to some people missing a turn en route, but when things did get going it was great. Geoff Pook (T15 CO SWn) and Marianne (Roseland T15 Coach) set a course for the seasoned sailors with a slightly shorter course for the 3.5m fleet; in the meantime Bob Warren (Roseland T15 Head Coach) looked after the less experienced sailors getting them underway with a simple paddle and sail course - very apt for the venue.
On the large course things were going well with Jack Warren (Bic/Demon Sails sponsored team - Roseland Wave Riders) showing the way round the course; not only did he have the home advantage he also had the biggest sail. Harry Smith of Stithians Allstars (Neilson) came in a creditable second overall and first in the 3.5m fleet, closely followed by Nat Warren of Roseland in third. On the smaller course Mel Cockman won the first race for the Roadford Wreckers.
Will Pepworth from Tamar Tigers arrived in time to take place in the second race, pushing the number of teams up to six - the largest amount of T15 clubs ever to attend a SWs T15 event. Racing was now getting faster and newer sailors were getting used to the tides, which increased the standards even more. Once again Jack Warren showed the way home, followed by Will Pepworth, a seasoned team15 clubber in second place, Gemma Grayston (Wave Riders) came in third overall and first in the 3.5m fleet. Standards were increasing on the small course with most competitors completing the course.
Five races were completed with the competitors on the smaller course leaving out the paddling and doing a huge downwind slalom course for the last two races. Bob Warren then organised a mini-freestyle competition to get everyone practising ready for the freestyle championship in September (SWs v SWn inter-club).
Kirsty Burridge of Demon Sails presented the prizes with special trophies going to Sammy Armstrong (Wave Riders) for pure determination and to Jess Vallance for the biggest improvement. The T15 sponsors were thanked - Neilson, Tushingham and Bic - along with everyone for attending. The team trophy was awarded to the Roseland Wave Riders who were competing on home waters.
Dont forget the next T15 inter-club event at Siblyback Watersports on 9 July, but the week before that is the Grand Prix Event at Roadford Lake (1/2 July), which the more experienced T15 inter-club sailors should have a go at. Great fun so see you there!

The Green Blue is an environmental awareness initiative by the British Marine Federation and the Royal Yachting Association. One of its aims is to educate and promote the sustainable use of coastal and inland waters by watersports participants. Some of the initiatives have a relevance to windsurfers - especially in achieving cleaner seas and beaches.
