Event 3 Venue: South Cerney OEC, nr Cirencester Date: 5 August 2006
Mirror, mirror on the lake... South Cerney Outdoor Education Centre (aka SCOEC) played host to event 3 of the South West(n) T15 inter-club series. Although brand new to the T15 circuit SCOEC has been around for some 30 years, so they should know a thing or two. Four teams with 26 T15ers turned up for the event- although unfortunately the wind didnt!
Despite this the event kicked off at 11am with a paddling race. In the 3.5 m class India from the Axbridge Animals flew away from the fleet winning the first race, with Daniell Foxwell in 2nd and in his first-ever T15 event, Rowan Poole in 3rd. Elsewhere Noelle from Axbridge began her domination of the 4.5 class. Guy Irvine from Croft Farm Flyers won the 5.5m class and in the 6.8m class Chris Atwood - also from Croft Farm - took honours.
Despite a great deal of silent praying and an impromptu wind dance we were still without wind so another paddling race took centre stage - this time with a running finish. Although some of the T15 Coaches were a little confused where the finish was supposed to be, all went well. This time in the 3.5m class Daniell moved up a place to 1st, Laurel from SCOEC Screamers was 2nd and Josh from the Wimbleball Wombles in 3rd. In the 4.5m class Harriet Stevens and Jenny Attwood-Davies tied in 1st place. Guy Irvine once again won the 5.5m race, as did Chris Attwood in the 6.8m class.
Due to the ever persistent lack of wind a third and final paddling race was held. Would those shoulder muscles hang on??? Josh from the Wimbleball Wombles won the 3.5m fleet, Noelle the 4.5m, Callum the 5.5m and Laurie Finch took the 6.8m class.
Lunch was provided by the entire Daniels family, who were raising money for the St Vincents Day Care Centre in Cheltenham - many thanks to them for the delicious food and efforts.
After some discussions it was decided that for the fourth race of the day a T15 freestyle competition would be held. Ably assisted by George Shillito from Team Airborn, we were underway. The plan was that George would demonstrate a move which would then be copied by the T15ers. Those who could not do the move would be knocked out (not literally we hoped). All went well, the only problem was coming up with tricks that the sailors couldnt do! Eventually however, Noelle and Jenny took joint 1st in the 4.5m class; Georgia Heaslip was 1st in the 5.5m class with Guy and Callum tied in 2nd place. In the 6.8m class Laurie Finch won. The 3.5m class went last with Laurel completing 40 sail and body 360s before the judges gave up counting. Needless to say she won, with Rowan in 2nd and Daniell 3rd.
So overall Daniell won the 3.5m class beating Laurel to 2nd and Indi in 3rd. In the 4.5meters the very consistent Noelle won with three 1st places leaving Harriet Stevens in 2nd and Jenny Attwood-Davies in 3rd. Guy Irvine won the 5.5m class with two first places and a second, second place went to Callum Finch and 3rd to Georgia Heaslip.
Chris Atwood took the overall honours in the 6.8 metre class, with Laurie Finch in 2nd place.
The overall team prize was once again won by the Axbridge Animals, with Croft Farm Flyers in a very close second place. What will happen at the final event at Durleigh? You will have to turn up to find out!

ADOPT-A-BEACH

The Green Blue is an environmental awareness initiative by the British Marine Federation and the Royal Yachting Association. One of its aims is to educate and promote the sustainable use of coastal and inland waters by watersports participants.
Some of the initiatives have a relevance to windsurfers - especially in achieving cleaner seas and beaches.
Adopt-a-Beach is definitely relevant to T15ers, which is a Marine Conservation Society project supported by the Green Blue.
