The Bosworth end of season windsurf festival!! Saturday 17th September brought the 2005 Midlands Team 15 season to a close. The three teams consisting of the Bosworth Bullets, Rutland Rockets and Carsington Force XV did battle once again. Although Bosworth were crowned zone champs after event 3, the Rutland and Carsington teams were keen to end the domination.
Throughout the season we have operated a very successful 3.5m beginners fleet. These are the young grommits who start the day being able to just about sail along and turn, through a bit of coaching, encouragement and tempting with hot chocolate, we try to get them sailing upwind and generally improve there skills. Fourteen young windsurfers took to the water alongside the main Team 15 fleets. Robyn Robinson went into the racing as favourite, however she was saving her energy for the karaoke later on so lots of sailors got firsts. The level of improvement at the end of the day was clear for all to see. There had to be one winner so well done to Ben Nicholas. Carsington coaches Simon and Phoebe were confronted with the huge responsibility of operating the comittee picnic bench. Bosworth is so small that a comittee boat would have caused havoc on the start line, in fact Bosworth is actually shrinking day by day and the team often spend training sessions digging it back out! Simon equipped himself with his usual large supply of snacks and the racing began. To their credit, the windsurfers managed to complete seven grueling races around the huge Bosworth curcuit. Well done to 3.5m sailors Michael Davies and Charly Sissons from Rutland. They had to adjust to the light winds of Boswoth and sailed with strong determination. Tom Owen was the terminator in the 3.5m fleet, well done to him. Usual suspects Henry Jones from Carsington and Zac King from Bosworth were battling it out again in the 4.5m fleet. Disapointed by the lack of Barbeque at Rutland, Henry protested Rutland and gained two barbeques at Bosoworth. One of the best things about Team 15 is watching the windsurfers improve and move up the fleets. Rebecca Lovatt from Carsington has shown great improvement in the 4.5m fleet. Respect also to consistent performers Michale Ruane, Emily Howard, Hannah Wisdish and Nicola Granger. This bunch are also the happiest sailors of the series and can be seen sailing with a smile. Improvement seems to have been outstanding in the 5.5 fleet also. Well done to Ashley Barret for moving up a fleet from the last inter club challenge and gaining excellent positions. Lindsay Smith also showed up exhibiting some excellent new skills. Where she got these skills from is still a mistery but has somethingto do with a famous, good looking instructor from Rutland Watersports. Matt Yeates and Sam Buckby were once again head to head in the 6.6m fleet and once again the rivalry started the night before in the van at about teatime. Sam and Matt have recently become the first members of Team R.W.S a high performance team from Rutland. Unfortunately for Sam Matt won it so hell have to put up with all sorts of garbage coming from Matt until there next race meeting. The evening party was awesome, this is where Bosworth becomes such a good venue. The centre is based right next to a lovelly sandy beach thanks to many deliveries of golden sand fresh from Bondi Beach. So, we had the bar and the disco complete with karaoke blasting out acros the sands. The karaoke stars began to emerge from there caravans one by one throughout the evening. The kids were a little slow to put in there requests so parents Mick Leadbetter and Dave Worthington took charge of the mic. Promptly the beach emptied and Dave and Mick were escorted off premises, however this was only wishful thinking as they carried on for several long and tortuous songs. Eventually as if by some heavenly mercy they stopped and alowed the angelic voice of Robyn Robinson to be heard. Overall the evening was superb, I think the parents enjoyed it slightly more than the kids but thanks to Bosworth for a fantastic day and it didnt stop there. On Sunday there was demo kit to try and freestyle competitions, overall, an awesome weekend, many thanks to Bosworth staff, Ben, Dave and the parents. Most of all Nigel and Jo Ryley for being so supportive today and over the past few years. The Bosworth Bullets are sponsored by Neilson and the Rutland Rockets by Ultrasport/Bic. |

The Green Blue is an environmental awareness initiative by the British Marine Federation and the Royal Yachting Association. One of its aims is to educate and promote the sustainable use of coastal and inland waters by watersports participants. Some of the initiatives have a relevance to windsurfers - especially in achieving cleaner seas and beaches.
