Modern equipment options

The product information on the next pages has been supplied by the windsurfing importers and simply lists the equipment they consider to be suitable for the youth market and in particular, team15. Our aim is to keep the site as up to date as possible, however, we are reliant on the importers in supplying us with the necessary information. Not all manufacturers may have responded to requests for information. Please let us know if you perceive any of the information to be inaccurate.

Whilst any of the listed equipment could be used for team15 (providing it has a daggerboard or central fin) it is worth reminding that if your aim is to get into the RYA Zone Squads then at some point you will need to invest in the compulsory one design board and rig - the Bic 293OD and Tushingham TK68. It is your choice as to whether you buy this now and compete in the new T15 class, or whether you purchase any of the listed kit to use this year in one of the four remaining T15 classes and then purchase the one design kit once you have been selected for one of the squads. By providing this information from the outset, you can make an informed choice.

Where to buy?

Whilst this section provides basic information about some of the latest equipment suitable for youth windsurfing, the question remains as to where to buy such equipment and gain more detailed advice.

Windsurfing retailers should offer the best service to their younger clients and to their parents (who will be picking up the bill no doubt!). To do this, retailers should stock a small selection of youth equipment which should include suitable boards, rigs, wetsuits, buoyancy aids, harnesses and footwear. Shop staff should be familiar with the team15 initiative so that they can offer the best advice to team15 clubbers based on your age, size, current requirements and windsurfing ambitions.

This is where we need your help to do a bit of detective work.  Does your local windsurfing retailer offer a good service to team15 clubbers? Do they stock youth/family equipment and do they offer quality service and advice?  If they do, then we would like to feature them on the T15 website so that other children can benefit from the same standard of customer service. Just because you are smaller and younger than the average customer doesn’t mean you should receive second rate service. So lets Big Up the best retailers and encourage other retailers to raise their game. You can do this by nominating a retailer so that they can be added to the list of top youth windsurfing retailers.

ADOPT-A-BEACH

The Green Blue is an environmental awareness initiative by the British Marine Federation and the Royal Yachting Association. One of its aims is to educate and promote the sustainable use of coastal and inland waters by watersports participants.

Some of the initiatives have a relevance to windsurfers - especially in achieving cleaner seas and beaches.

Adopt-a-Beach is definitely relevant to T15ers, which is a Marine Conservation Society project supported by the Green Blue.
