Event 1 Winning Team
Monsters Continue the Rampage Loch Insh Monsters (LIM) have continued their 100% record in the first T15 Interclub Event of the season at their home in the Scottish Highlands, making it a dominant six wins out of six since their first event at Monikie at the end of 2006. FLAT CALM The day started with a note of welcome to the visiting competitors from Clyde Barracudas (CB) and East Kilbride Eagles (EKE) and a briefing, with everyone hitting the water by 10:45. But this time it was without sails, with some fun paddle-boarding and games before the wind arrived at around 11:30. THINGS ARE LOOKING UP Sorry, what I should have said was, very very very light wind. However, that was all Cyril Dowson (race officer) needed, and each of the fleets competed at least 1 race in the cross shore winds before we broke for lunch. The 6.8 Techno and 6.8 fleets raced together and Jordan OHara (14, CB) and Torin Prescott (13, LIM) swapped places in the first two races on Techno 6.8, as did Annalee Hargreaves (13, LIM) and Lucy Dunsmuir (15, EKE), both of these fleets were looking very competitive. Natalie McWilliams (13, EKE) started well with a first in the 5.5 fleet on her Techno followed by Caitlin Sedgeworth (15, LIM) with Callum Kerr (10, CB) and Rhys Cornfield (10, LIM) following closely behind. The 3.5 and 4.5 sailors competed together, with Eilidh Sutherland (12, LIM) and David Tailor (12, LIM) both starting strongly. Dean Hargreaves (11, LIM) and Holly MacPhail (11, CB) both sailed well on their Technos in the 4.5 fleet and Rory MacKeachan on 3.5 was excellent in only his second Interclub Event, definitely one to watch for in the future! LUNCH TIME Loch Insh Watersports Centre provided a BBQ lunch, and it only took a single call from the chef before all three teams surrounded the BBQ snatching for food. Light wind racing certainly works up an appetite. Lunch was interrupted for Cyril by a rise in the wind strength and a shift in direction, so the food was abandoned and a triangle course was set just off the beach in the newly onshore breeze. RESTART IN SOME WIND A quick briefing later the fleets started rolling out races, one after the other, in quick succession. Most of the fleets were beginning to be dominated by one sailor; Eilidh was excellent on the 3.5 Fleet and finished with 6 wins out if 6. Taking 1st place in the 3.5 fleet in style. Dean sailed like pro on his Techno, with 2 wins and 2 seconds after lunch, matching Davids afternoon performance. But Davids win in the first race placed him a point ahead at the end and sealed the win with Dean 1st 4.5 Techno. Rhys recovered from his 4th in the first race to win the next and place second in all others in the afternoon, with Natalie and Callum swapping 3rd and 4th places and having a really good battle. However, Caitlin was unstoppable, and in the fresh breeze eased away from the fleet, winning the last 4 races and sneaking ahead on points counting 4 wins and a second place. Rhys was 1st 5.5 Techno. Annalee and Lucy continued to swap places in each of the races, both counting 3 firsts and 3 seconds, and finishing on equal points. In the end it was Annalee who got the victory. With both on very similar equipment, we are all looking forward to see who comes out on top at East Kilbride. In the 6.8 Techno fleet, Jordan returned to his winning ways taking the 6.8 Techno crown, however, Torin was bighting at his heels and pushed Jordan all the way. AND RELAX! With racing over and a good 12kts of breeze most of the sailors blasted around for an hour before congregating for the prize giving in glorious sunshine. Loch Insh Watersports provided a huge box of prizes, and every sailor left with something. TEAM WINNERS With their 8 sailors winning 5 of the fleets and not counting worse than a second place, Loch Insh Monsters continued their winning ways as Event One Champions. We are all looking forward to Event Two at East Kilbride on 14 June 2008 and encourage everyone to bring as large a team as possible to add to the fun for everyone. |
