Event 4 Winning Team ROSELAND WAVE RIDERS ARE THROUGH TO NATIONAL YOUTH WINDSURFING FINAL FOR SECOND YEAR A team of local young windsurfing heroes won a massive ten point victory in the fourth round of the RYA's Team15 (T15) SW Regional Youth Windsurfing Championships at the weekend (Saturday 30 August) held at Siblyback Lake. The Roseland Wave Riders from Portscatho beat other talented teams from the south of the SW region to win their place in the National T15 Champions Cup at Rutland Water in October. As in previous rounds, family fun was much in evidence, with three Warren and three Grayston siblings out in force for Roseland. Jack Warren (15), sailing in his last T15 event, was the winner in a really close battle with Tom Davies (15) in the 6.8 open fleet. Jack will turn 16 before the Champions Cup. Brothers Nat (12) and Ross (9) helped their team to victory with a second place in the Techno 6.8m and a third in the 3.5m class respectively. Gemma Grayston (14) was first in the Techno 6.8m class, brother Adam (13) also claimed a first place in the 4.5m class, and little sister Lucy (10) came second in the 3.5m class, which was won by Roseland's Nick Sylvester (12). Clea Gibson (15) and Jack Hawkins (13) won first and second places for Roseland in the 5.5m class, giving the Wave Riders victory over second-placed Tamar Tigers. Twins Megan and Jenna Arnold and brothers Louis and Ross Morris from Siblyback Water Warriors and Ross and Connie Bromhead of the Tamar Tigers also contributed to the family atmosphere. T15 organiser Ady Davies said: "Sunshine and a wind of about 8 knots were quite a surprise really. Most sailors realised what the blob in the sky was and used suntan lotion! "Jack Warren has been a great competitor in T15 and I hope he will be coaching along with Marianne at Roseland Paddle and Sail next season. "A special mention must also go to Tristram Keats (13) from Siblyback, who completed all his races having been windsurfing for just three weeks!" |

The Green Blue is an environmental awareness initiative by the British Marine Federation and the Royal Yachting Association. One of its aims is to educate and promote the sustainable use of coastal and inland waters by watersports participants. Some of the initiatives have a relevance to windsurfers - especially in achieving cleaner seas and beaches.
