TAMAR TIGERS CLINCH SECOND ROUND VICTORY Local windsurfing legends the Tamar Tigers from Bude proved they are on top form this season when they won the second round of the RYA's Team15 (T15) SW Regional Youth Windsurfing Championships this weekend (Sat 12th July). Held at Upper Tamar Water the event saw teams from all over the SW region congregate for a day of racing, each of them eager to make their mark on the competition. Racing was split into 5 sail size classes 3.5m, 4.5m, 5.5m, 6.8m and 6.8m Techno and points awarded to each team member for their placing with in each class. The Tigers were on fire with Ross Bromhead (12) from Buckland Brewer winning the 6.8m Techno Class while little sister Connie (9) competed for the first time. Holsworthy's George Morris won all but one of his races in the 3.5m class earning the Tigers another well deserved class victory. Team mates Thomas Hasset (4.5m class) and Henry Whal (5.5m class) put in similarly impressive performances winning the Tigers a comfortable event victory. A merit award for determination was also awarded on the day to Tamar Tiger Kitty Harding who has only just joined T15 but posted some impressive results nonetheless. The Tigers finished five points ahead of the Roseland Wave Riders, and the Siblyback Water Warriors came third. This was the second round in the competition for the title of Regional Champions, and an opportunity to compete in the National T15 Champions Cup in October. The next round will take place at Roadford on 3 August. Supported by industry leaders Neilson, Tushingham/Starboard, Ultra Sport/Bic, Windsurf magazine, Boards magazine and Neil Pryde, T15 was set up by the RYA to provide youngsters up to the age of 15 with the opportunity to learn all about windsurfing and improve their skills in a friendly club environment. Weekly training sessions take place at RYA approved centres and clubs and are run by RYA trained instructors and T15 coaches. All safety aspects are taken care of and equipment can be provided to children who dont have their own kit yet. |

The Green Blue is an environmental awareness initiative by the British Marine Federation and the Royal Yachting Association. One of its aims is to educate and promote the sustainable use of coastal and inland waters by watersports participants. Some of the initiatives have a relevance to windsurfers - especially in achieving cleaner seas and beaches.
