Event 4
AXBRIDGE ANIMALS WIN THROUGH TO NATIONAL WINDSURFING CHAMPIONSHIP Local youth windsurfing team the Axbridge Animals beat three other South West teams to win the fourth round of the RYA's Team15 (T15) SW Regional Youth Windsurfing Championships at the weekend (Sunday 31 August), and secure their place in the National T15 Champions Cup at Rutland Water in October. The event, held at Croft Farm Water Park, was attended by the Croft Farm Flyers, the Wimbleball Wombles and the SCOEC Screamers. The wet, cloudy weather with very light wind caused all sorts of problems for the organisers and even more for the competitors. Laura Bulson (13) from Croft Farm and Harriet Whiteley (12) from Axbridge both refused to give in during their third race when the wind died and shifted many times. They both fought with complete determination until they crossed the line, showing a good example to T15 members and adults alike. At the end of the 3.5m class racing, Harriet beat Laura's brother Ben (13) from Croft Farm into second place. The 4.5m class saw B-Al Martin (13) and Alexander Savage (12) take both the top slots for the Axbridge Animals, and Tom Stevens (15) and Noelle Finch (13) managed the same feat in the Techno 6.8m class. In the final points tally, Axbridge Animals beat the Croft Farm Flyers by nine points, and the SCOEC Screamers took third place. |

The Green Blue is an environmental awareness initiative by the British Marine Federation and the Royal Yachting Association. One of its aims is to educate and promote the sustainable use of coastal and inland waters by watersports participants. Some of the initiatives have a relevance to windsurfers - especially in achieving cleaner seas and beaches.
