Event 2 Winning Team BRÂN HELPS SCOEC SCREAMERS TO SECOND ROUND VICTORY Fifteen-year-old Brân Chambers from Withington sailed out of his skin during the second round of the RYAs Team 15 (T15) SWN regional youth windsurfing championship hosted by his home club, South Cerney Outdoor Education Centre, last Sunday (13 July), and received a merit award as a result. The event saw young windsurfers from three T15 clubs from across the SW region battle with difficult light wind conditions for a day of highly competitive racing across five sail size classes. Brân, who has been windsurfing for seven years, showed particular commitment and great potential as he raced in the 6.8m class, which he won by four points. Also putting in winning performances for the SCOEC Screamers were Sebastian Cooper (13) from Cirencester (6.8m Bic Techno class) and Joe Payne (12) from Chippenham (3.5m class) – ensuring a Screamers victory over the Croft Farm Flyers and the Axbridge Animals. Dan Fever (15) of the Croft Farm Flyers, received a merit award for persistence, having done very well after struggling initially in the light winds. This was the second round in the competition for the title of Regional Champions, and an opportunity to compete in the National T15 Champions Cup in October. The next round will take place at Wimbleball on 2 August. Supported by industry leaders Neilson, Tushingham/Starboard, Ultra Sport/Bic, Windsurf magazine, Boards magazine and Neil Pryde, T15 was set up by the RYA to provide youngsters up to the age of 15 with the opportunity to learn all about windsurfing and improve their skills in a friendly club environment. Weekly training sessions take place at RYA approved centres and clubs and are run by RYA trained instructors and T15 coaches. All safety aspects are taken care of and equipment can be provided to children who dont have their own kit yet. |

The Green Blue is an environmental awareness initiative by the British Marine Federation and the Royal Yachting Association. One of its aims is to educate and promote the sustainable use of coastal and inland waters by watersports participants. Some of the initiatives have a relevance to windsurfers - especially in achieving cleaner seas and beaches.
