Event 1
Home team off to flying start in youth windsurfing contest The regions young windsurfers had a cracking start to their RYA Team15 (T15) inter-club racing season last weekend, when local team Axbridge Animals beat off stiff competition from the SCOEC Screamers from South Cerney and the Croft Farm Flyers at a downwind slalom event at the Bristol Corinthian Yacht Club. The winning team included no fewer than three members of one family – Georgina (11), Isabelle (9) and Alexsander Savage (12), from Weston Super Mare, and two members of another - Harriet (12) and Oliver Whiteley (13). Alexsander put in a particularly impressive performance at his first-ever T15 event, which saw over thirty participants showing off their impressive windsurfing skills. Joe Barnes (12) was commended as the Best Newcomer, having completed all his races after just three weeks of windsurfing! The weather was cloudy and dry with a cross onshore wind that was ideal for beach starting and slalom racing. The races became more and more competitive as the seasoned sailors got back into their stride after the winter break, and confidence grew in those new to T15. The team coach of the SCOEC Screamers, Simon Holloway, commented: It was brilliant. Everybody enjoyed themselves and did really well. The other Axbridge Animals were: This was an exciting first round to what will undoubtedly be an extremely close-fought competition for the title of Regional Champions, and an opportunity to compete in the National T15 Champions Cup in October.
