Event 1 Winning Team
Zoomers win first round of windsurfing championship Local windsurfing hotshots the Oxford Zoomers proved they were still on top form over the weekend (Saturday 14th June) when they won the first round of the RYAs Team15 (T15) Youth Windsurfing Championship. Held on the Zoomers home water Farmoor Reservoir, the event was the first round of the South regional heats. Teams travelled from all over the region to battle it out on the water eager to make their mark on the championship and knock the Zoomers, who have won the regional championship for the past two years, off course for a hat trick. Racing was split into five sail size classes, 3.5m, 4.5m, 5.5m, 6.8m and 6.8m Techno and despite the challenging light wind conditions some impressive results were posted across the teams giving the Zoomers a real run for their money. The 3.5m class was dominated by Academy Allstars Rachael Horton, Ella Milne and Ludo French from Poole (Hampshire) who were swapping the top three places between them over the races. The 4.5m class was won by Queen Mary Skimmer Henry Bloodworth who was closely followed by Calshot Flyer Nick Hibdige. The Zoomers however reigned supreme in the larger sail size classes with super stars Chloe Hopgood in the 6.8m class and Chris Guest in 6.8m techno class winning every race they sailed. Zoomer George Simmonds had a bit more of a fight on his hands in the 5.5m class fending off competition from Flyer Sam Hibdige who chased George all day. Keeping his nerve George let just one win go to Sam and retained a convincing win. Event victory went to the Zoomers with the Academy Allstars in second place, Queen Mary Skimmers in third and the small team from Calshot in fourth. Saturdays event was the first of four regional heats taking place in the South this summer. The winning team will then go on to represent the region at the national T15 final The Champions Cup in October held in Rutland, Leicestershire.

The Green Blue is an environmental awareness initiative by the British Marine Federation and the Royal Yachting Association. One of its aims is to educate and promote the sustainable use of coastal and inland waters by watersports participants. Some of the initiatives have a relevance to windsurfers - especially in achieving cleaner seas and beaches.
