Wentworth Warriors

How many years have you been windsurfing?
Since 1992 therefore 11 seasons.

Where do you windsurf yourself?
Rutland Water.

What kit do you sail?
Carve 123 (Starboard) & sails 5-7m.

Best windsurfing moment?
Any time I'm on the water with friends and enjoying ourselves.

Favourite place you have ever windsurfed - UK & abroad?
Rhosneigr in Anglesey.

Who or what has inspired you the most?
All the other instructors I've worked with.

How long have you been an RYA instructor?
Qualified in 1994, taught for 9 summer seasons.

What motivated you to become and instructor?
Got a summer job in 1993 at Wentworth and enjoyed working with people and helping teach so much I just carried on.

What's the biggest buzz about instructing?
Meeting new people every day, no two days are the same and helping people learn and get their own buzz out of a sport.

Have you had any other careers?
I tried to work as a Chemical Analyst but hated being stuck inside!

Any hidden talents outside of windsurfing?
Not really. I am average at everything - skiing, sailing etc. and enjoy teaching all of them.

Any other hobbies?
Loads! Normal stuff like reading, going on holidays, out for meals, gardening, walking and soon getting a puppy to take out with us on walks etc.

Alive or dead, who would you most like to meet?
Nobody in particular - always happy to chat to anyone.

Any top tips for T15 clubbers?
Never forget that you are doing it for fun!

Finally, what’s the best thing for you about team15?
Getting to know the kids a bit better over time, working with them in a coaching role to improve them rather than just teaching them the basics. I'm learning loads as I go along from other coaches and kids, enjoying meeting other coaches etc. Fantastic when the team does well and very proud of our Warriors.

ADOPT-A-BEACH

The Green Blue is an environmental awareness initiative by the British Marine Federation and the Royal Yachting Association. One of its aims is to educate and promote the sustainable use of coastal and inland waters by watersports participants.

Some of the initiatives have a relevance to windsurfers - especially in achieving cleaner seas and beaches.

Adopt-a-Beach is definitely relevant to T15ers, which is a Marine Conservation Society project supported by the Green Blue.
