"I would like to nominate Scott Mason and Rupert Munro-Faure of Bewl Blasters in the South East Zone for their continued support to myself and many other windsurfing hopefuls. These two team15ers were polite, kind, social and above all sportmanship. In my eyes a perfect Team15er should have these qualities; these two certainly lived up to the expectations.

N.B. We haven't received Rupert's profile yet, so here's Scott's for the time being...

How old were you when you started windsurfing?
I was 9 years old.

What made you want to start windsurfing?
It looked exciting & cool & my older brother had taken up the sport the summer before with a Neilson holiday.

What equipment do you sail?
145 Carve & a F2 Phoenix board. Tushingham sails from 4.5m up to a 7.5m at the moment.

Have you joined in with T15 inter-club events yet?
Yes this is my second season & loving it.  I am also using Windsurfing as my sport for the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award & part of my GCSE PE course.  I have some coaching at Bewl and we go away with Neilson’s each May to get a couple of good weeks training.  This year I managed to get by Level 3 and will be doing RYA race training at our club Red, White & Blue late August once our coaching team have their new qualifications.

What is your best windsurfing moment?
Racing until I got blisters in Finikounda this summer & winning the Regattas – gaining my Level 3 after 2 weeks hard work with Ben the Neilson coach.  Last year doing well at 4.5m T15 and this year not doing so well at 5.5m but its encouraged me to train harder.

Who or what has inspired you the most?
Guy Cribb he came to Bewl in the summer for 2006 & spent a day teaching us Gybes & tricks etc…  My T15 squad is always there cheering me on when we are racing & it’s great to be part of this team event.  I enjoy giving back to new and younger members too and helping them gain their confidence.  I got my brother Harvey (13) to join this season and he was winner over all in the SE on 3.5m racing points.  We got Christopher to race with us this summer too not only for the first time but on the sea at Hythe too in lots of chop & wind.

Current move you are trying to master?
Getting really comfortable in the foot straps and a really slick carve gybes.

Any windsurfing ambitions?
To sail in the Zone Squad 2007/08 and get to UKWA Junior Squad.

Other hobbies?
Football I play for School, District & Junior Kent League.  Also enjoy Tennis, Swimming & mountain bike riding as well as some serious Computer games. Explorers.  Basically most of the time out door doing things.

Any hidden talents outside of windsurfing?
Football, good at impressions, and making pegs dance on my eyebrows !!!

Favourite band/artist at the moment?
Gorillas.

Best TV show?
Match of the Day and any cool surfing shows on SKY.

Best movie ever seen?
Die Hard series & latest Die Hard 4.

Read anything interesting lately?
Chris Ryan’s Alpha Force series books… Harry Potters latest book.

Alive or dead, who would you most like to meet - and why?
Weird al Yankovic he writes some great articles & paradigms.  He would inspire my writing and an hour with him would be awesome as he is so cool.

Any idea what job you would like to do when you leave school?
Working in Media.  I am using my media skills at the moment for the T15 Web site as the latest write ups of the South Eastern inter club meetings this season.  Hopefully if some of my articles make Boards or Windsurfing I can use them for my media writing skill also for the Duke of Edinburgh awards this autumn. A great job would be “Blue Peter Presenter” as you get to do so many action sports etc.

What do you like best about T15?
I have made some great friends like Glenn Sullivan not from our club but he liked us so much he races with us & all the other guy’s from Hythe & Aqua Sports.  I would not have met half the lads & girls in my team as we are all from parts of Kent but meeting at the club for training & racing means we have got to know each other better.  This means I have a far wider circle of friends than just my school and football. Ian Kraft is great fun & really encourages us to try in most conditions.  You get to learn about the equipment & share boards & rigs to practise. This year my team have really bonded & I am really looking forward to 2008 racing - for some of us this will be our last season next year. I hope to do my instructor training courses soon so I can give back to the next generation of would be Team 15’ers…

ADOPT-A-BEACH

The Green Blue is an environmental awareness initiative by the British Marine Federation and the Royal Yachting Association. One of its aims is to educate and promote the sustainable use of coastal and inland waters by watersports participants.

Some of the initiatives have a relevance to windsurfers - especially in achieving cleaner seas and beaches.

Adopt-a-Beach is definitely relevant to T15ers, which is a Marine Conservation Society project supported by the Green Blue.
