How old were you when you started windsurfing?
14years old, but I had dreamed about doing it since about age 12.

What made you want to start windsurfing?

It looked really cool and I had sailed a little bit and wanted to do jumps like in all the pictures I’d seen.

What equipment do you sail?

Mainly Wave kit. Starboard Evo’s and Tushingham Rocks.

When and where did you start competing?
I started on the River Teign in Devon, doing the local races on a Tuesday night.

What is your best result and the one you are most proud of?
4th At PWA Indoor Champs in Belgium last year. I beat Kauli Seadi, Josh Angulo, it was a good day for me.

What is your training schedule like?

I try not to look at it as training. If it’s windy I go windsurfing and have fun. That’s the best way to get better.

What windsurfers do you socialize with during training and events?

Andy King, Ben Proffitt, Phil Horrocks, James Cox, All of the UK guys really during events and then whoever is at the beach when I am just sailing for fun.

Tell us some gossip on two well-known windsurfers!

Andy King is scared of the dark!!

Best windsurfing moment ever?

Probably landing a back loop off the ramp at an indoor competition. Closely followed by making it all the way across the river and back without falling off when I was about 15yrs old.

Scariest moment?
Swimming after my kit for 45 mins in big waves in South Africa this winter

Who or what has inspired you the most?
Just getting on the water inspires me to learn tricks and have fun.

What are your ambitions for the future?
Regain may UK wave title and to travel to some new locations.

Any hidden talents outside of windsurfing?
I play the guitar........badly.

If you weren't a windsurfer, what career would you be following?
Something in marketing or promotions or pro surfer (in my dreams).

Finally, any top tips for T15 clubbers?
Have fun, don’t stress about winning all the time. If you are having fun and are relaxed then you will do your best. Watch loads of windsurfing DVDs and read the magazines, oh and practice in your head – visualising is a really strong training tool.

ADOPT-A-BEACH

The Green Blue is an environmental awareness initiative by the British Marine Federation and the Royal Yachting Association. One of its aims is to educate and promote the sustainable use of coastal and inland waters by watersports participants.

Some of the initiatives have a relevance to windsurfers - especially in achieving cleaner seas and beaches.

Adopt-a-Beach is definitely relevant to T15ers, which is a Marine Conservation Society project supported by the Green Blue.
