T15/UKSA WINDSURFING TRAINING CAMP
Posted On:  10/06/2008 3:06:57 PM

A lucky 24 teenagers from T15 clubs around the country have the opportunity to take part in the second T15/UKSA Youth Week on the Isle of Wight, 24-29 August 2008. This residential training camp is open to T15 club sailors who hold a Youth Windsurfing Scheme Level 2 / Stage 3 (W1/2008) certificate and are aged 14 or 15. Ideally you will have participated in T15 inter-club events but this is not essential.

RYA coaches and instructors will lead the action-packed week with the aim of planning for your windsurfing future. Coaching will concentrate on improving your general windsurfing skills, racing skills and your freestyle ability, using the new RYA Youth Windsurfing Logbook (W1/2008).

Only 24 children can attend the week, 12 girls and 12 boys. To be in with a chance of selection and making new friends with T15 sailors from across the UK, entries must be submitted by Friday 1 August 2008. Visit the RYA website to download a registration form (available by 11 July).

To ensure a good spread of T15 sailors from around the country, from completed registration forms, one boy and one girl will be selected at random from each of the ten T15 zones meaning that 20 children will represent T15 clubs from across the UK. A further two places will be made available to a boy and a girl living on the Isle of Wight and who attend the UKSA T15 club. The two remaining places will be available as wild cards and if no male or no female entries are submitted in any one zone, these places will also be used as wild cards from all entries of that gender.

The cost of this residential week is £199; this includes all coaching, accommodation at UKSA, food, evening entertainment and travel to/from the Isle of Wight by ferry from Southampton/Portsmouth area (venue to be confirmed).

Participants should bring their own equipment although a limited amount may be available from the UKSA. Mini-buses and trailers will transport participants and equipment to the UKSA at Cowes from Southampton / Portsmouth area (return) by ferry. Travel from all UK locations to Southampton / Portsmouth meeting point is the responsibility of individuals and is not included in the event cost.

There are two other summer camps also available. See the three news items above for details.

ADOPT-A-BEACH

The Green Blue is an environmental awareness initiative by the British Marine Federation and the Royal Yachting Association. One of its aims is to educate and promote the sustainable use of coastal and inland waters by watersports participants.

Some of the initiatives have a relevance to windsurfers - especially in achieving cleaner seas and beaches.

Adopt-a-Beach is definitely relevant to T15ers, which is a Marine Conservation Society project supported by the Green Blue.
