BBC FEATURES NORTH LINCS INVADERS
Posted On:  21/05/2008 1:23:16 PM

North Lincs & Humberside Sailing Club (home of the North Lincs Invaders T15 club)  were pleased to feature on local TV and radio during Sport Relief week to help promote the charities fundraising activity and show that the fund makes a difference locally. The club have been awarded £5000  from the Sport Relief Small Grants Programme towards the cost of converting a little used part of the clubhouse into a classroom.  This will help the club better deliver the theory part of Royal Yachting Association dinghy and windsurf training courses and provide a much more suitable venue for T15 youth windsurfing and dinghy race training briefing and debriefing sessions.

This is a much needed addition to the club facilities and will be completed for the start of the season.  This grant bid was successful because the panel felt that the club's application supported work to increase access to sports that people from deprived backgrounds wouldn't normally achieve and provided positive sports activities for children with behavioural problems. N Lincs have achieved this through work in partnership with Sea Cadets, Scouts, Sea Scouts and school groups to deliver training to young people throught the season and are proud of the achievements these youngsters make through participation in our sport.

North Lincolnshire Council Leisure Services Sports Grant Aid has provided partnership funding of £1,000. This recognises the commitment to increase participation in sport and active recreation and means that communications for safety and coaching on the water can be improved and coaching can be developed by the use of audio visual tools.

Grant support is important to the club, as they would not have the equipment or facilities to deliver the activities without it.  The club are very grateful to their funders for their support.

Any T15 club interested in receiving funding should contact their RDO (RYA Regional Development Officer).

ADOPT-A-BEACH

The Green Blue is an environmental awareness initiative by the British Marine Federation and the Royal Yachting Association. One of its aims is to educate and promote the sustainable use of coastal and inland waters by watersports participants.

Some of the initiatives have a relevance to windsurfers - especially in achieving cleaner seas and beaches.

Adopt-a-Beach is definitely relevant to T15ers, which is a Marine Conservation Society project supported by the Green Blue.
