EX-T15 MEMBERS NOW RYA INSTRUCTORS
Posted On:  08/04/2008 12:00:00 AM

If you are nearing the upper limits of T15 in terms of age, perhaps you might consider becoming an RYA Windsurfing Instructor? On a recent instructor course run at Carsington Water, that's exactly what happened. Of the seven candidates on the course, six were aged under 18 and one had only just had the 16th birthday. It transpired, during the initial course briefing that the six under 18s had all come from Team15 clubs within the Midlands Region.

This exciting development proves that not only can Team15 sailors make a  windsurfing career from the great T15 club atmosphere, but they can also become an instructor for life! And becoming an instructor was only part of the picture...

Having participated in the T15 inter-club challenges, four of the youngsters had already been selected for the RYA North Zone Squad. All six had decided to join the UKWA and race at both local and national events in the formula fleets.

With the age restriction of RYA windsurfing instructors being lowered from 18 to 16, it was great to see these windsurfers wanting the opportunity to put something back into the sport.

The course was both intense and exciting with all candidates having to work hard both on the water and ashore for five long days. The next goal for the whole group is to attend a Team15 coach-red course so they can really get stuck into helping train the next generation of Team15 windsurfers!

If you are a Team15 sailor and are nearing the age of 16, maybe this could be your next step to stay in with the T15 club scene and put some skills back into helping the next generation of Team15?

ADOPT-A-BEACH

The Green Blue is an environmental awareness initiative by the British Marine Federation and the Royal Yachting Association. One of its aims is to educate and promote the sustainable use of coastal and inland waters by watersports participants.

Some of the initiatives have a relevance to windsurfers - especially in achieving cleaner seas and beaches.

Adopt-a-Beach is definitely relevant to T15ers, which is a Marine Conservation Society project supported by the Green Blue.
