BBC SPORTS UNSUNG HERO AWARD - NOMINATE YOUR T15 COACH
Posted On:  09/10/2008 1:45:20 PM

If you have been watching TV lately you will possibly have seen adverts for the 2008 BBC Sports Unsung Hero Award? How fantastic would it be to have windsurfing represented and announced on regional TV and possibly even national TV?! Even more so to get Team15 itself recognised by the whole country!

Well this is your chance to make this happen and to recognise the huge efforts made by volunteers at your club who ensure the weekly sessions happen. Not everyone is as lucky as you to have a local T15 club, so remember to thank your club coaches and volunteers before you pack up your windsurfing kit for the winter and better still, also nominate them for a BBC Sports Unsung Hero Award.

15 regional winners will be chosen from around the BBC's Nations and Regions in November.

There is a bursary of up to £2500 available to each of the 15 Regional winners, to help them and their club in their work with sport in the community

Last year's overall winner was the remarkable 85-year-old Margaret Simons of Bardwell Football Club in Bicester.  She founded the club in 1964, bought the nets kits, balls, medical kits and refreshments from her own money, and was chair, secretary, treasurer, manager and coach to the 20 children in her first year.  An estimated nearly 3,000 children between ages of seven and 16 have now represented the club, which has teams in four different leagues.

The overall 2008 winner will be announced on the BBC Sports Personality of the Year show live on BBC ONE on Sunday December 14 from the Echo Arena in Liverpool.

Given our recent success at 'The Games' this is a great opportunity to put sailing volunteers in the spotlight alongside our medal winners!

You can make your nominations online at www.bbc.co.uk/sportsunsunghero

The closing date is Friday 31st October 2008.

ADOPT-A-BEACH

The Green Blue is an environmental awareness initiative by the British Marine Federation and the Royal Yachting Association. One of its aims is to educate and promote the sustainable use of coastal and inland waters by watersports participants.

Some of the initiatives have a relevance to windsurfers - especially in achieving cleaner seas and beaches.

Adopt-a-Beach is definitely relevant to T15ers, which is a Marine Conservation Society project supported by the Green Blue.
